– LASER HAIR REMOVAL FAQ’S –

At Natalie Anne, I want you to feel fully informed and confident before starting your laser hair removal journey. Below are answers to the most common questions about my services, the process, and what to expect. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out – I’m always here to help!

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal offers a long-lasting solution for permanently reducing unwanted hair on the face, legs, underarms, and bikini line. Unlike shaving or waxing, which only provide short-term results, laser treatments lead to smoother skin with a significant, permanent reduction in hair growth.

How does Laser Hair Removal work?

Laser hair removal is a procedure that uses concentrated light energy to remove unwanted hair through a process called photothermolysis. Because darker hair contains more melanin, treatment is more effective the darker the hair is.

How many sessions will I need?

A minimum of at least six sessions per treatment area is recommended. On average, most clients require 6-8 treatments, though some may need additional sessions to achieve their desired outcome.

What Laser Hair Removal Machine do you use?

I use one of the newest medical-grade diode laser systems that delivers the optimal wavelength of light to precisely target hair follicles without damaging the surrounding skin. The AW3 Schnelle Ultra, which I use, is a cutting-edge system developed by a company that pioneered Crystal Freeze Technology for enhanced comfort during treatments. With over a decade of refinement, the Schnelle Ultra is one of the most advanced and reliable laser hair removal systems available, ensuring proven performance and exceptional results.

How long before I notice a result?

You’ll start noticing a reduction in hair growth right after your first session, with even more improvement after each appointment.

Is Laser Hair Removal safe?

Yes! I use the advanced AW3 Schnelle Ultra Machine, which is FDA-approved and designed for safe, comfortable treatments. I ensure every client feels at ease and receives personalised care throughout the process.

Is laser hair removal painful?

Most clients describe the sensation as a mild snap, like a rubber band lightly flicking the skin. With the AW3 Schnelle Ultra Machine’s advanced cooling technology, any discomfort is minimized. Feeling some sensation is expected, as it indicates the treatment is effectively targeting the hair follicles. Once you understand the science behind laser hair removal, it makes sense. How long should I go in between Laser Hair Removal appointments?

Depending on your hair and skin type and the area being treated, you will usually require treatments at 4-6 week intervals. Each part of the body has a different hair growth cycle, so the hair loss will vary depending on what phase your follicles are in at the time of treatment.

What are the side effects of Laser Hair Removal?

Temporary side effects may include redness, itchy skin, mild follicle swelling, and irritation in the treated areas. These reactions are normal following laser hair removal treatment. To achieve optimal results while minimizing side effects, it is important to adhere to the proper preparation and aftercare guidelines.

What is the age limit for Laser Hair Removal?

Clients must be at least 18 years old to receive any laser treatments at Natalie Anne, although those aged 16 – 18 years old would be considered for treatment in some circumstances. If you are under 18 years old, a parent or legal guardian would need to accompany you to your consultation and appointments. There is no upper age limit.

Am I Suitable for Laser Hair Removal?

Most men and women can benefit from laser hair removal. The best results are typically seen in individuals with dark hair and fair skin. Female clients with hirsutism can also be treated, but due to the underlying causes, more frequent or ongoing treatments may be necessary. You are not suitable for treatment if any of the following apply:

  • You are taking medication that increases photosensitivity.
  • You are pregnant (treatment can be resumed 3 months after delivery)
  • You have a suntan or have recently used a sunbed, or applied fake tan in the last 10 days.
  • You have had an epileptic seizure in the last 2 years
  • You have vitiligo
  • You have keloid scars

Your consultation & patch test will determine your suitability for treatment.

Are Women With PCOS Suitable For Laser Hair Removal?

Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) often experience hirsutism due to elevated androgen levels. Excessive body and facial hair can lead to significant stress and confidence issues.

While laser hair removal can effectively manage hair growth, it does not address the underlying condition. Multiple sessions are typically needed for optimal results, and women with PCOS may require more frequent treatments, although successful outcomes are still attainable.

What are the hair growth cycles?

Hair grows in cycles, and each follicle moves through three main phases:

  1. Anagen (Active Growth Phase)
This is when the hair is actively growing and being produced by the follicle. Laser treatments are most effective during this phase.
  2. Catagen (Transitional Phase)
During this phase, the hair stops growing, but it doesn’t shed immediately. The follicle starts to shrink in preparation for the next cycle.
  3. Telogen (Resting/Shedding Phase)
This is when the hair eventually falls out, making way for new growth.

Each of these phases occurs continuously throughout life, but factors like hormones, age, and genetics can impact how quickly or slowly hair grows. Laser hair removal works best when the hair is in the anagen (growing) phase. Since not all hairs are in the same phase at once, multiple treatments are needed to target and treat new hairs as they enter their growth phase.

The length of the hair growth cycle can vary based on the area being treated. For example, facial hair grows faster, making 6-8 week intervals ideal for treatment. Areas like the legs or back have longer cycles, so sessions spaced 8-12 weeks apart are more effective.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser hair removal offers “permanent reduction” by disabling hair regrowth when the appropriate hair type is treated with a suitable laser at effective settings. It is termed “reduction” since it cannot achieve 100% hair removal, particularly missing finer hairs.

Results vary with each individual. New hair growth can occur due to age, stress, diet, hormonal changes, and certain medical conditions. Patients typically assess reduction within 6-12 months post-treatment and will require “top-up” sessions for new growth.
